Glenn Keeler was born in Dartmouth, NS on November 21, 1893. He joined the 85th Battalion as a lieutenant in August 1917 while the unit was in France. Prior to that he had served in the 63rd Regiment Halifax Rifles. He was promoted to captain in October 1918 and was awarded a Military Cross for actions during the fighting around Amiens. He survived the war.
In the photograph Capt. Keeler is wearing a dark blue balmoral with diced banding and trimmed feather, as per late war regulations. He is wearing an officer’s highland cut jacket with sleeve ranking for captain, an officer’s “Sam Browne” leather belt, kilt and officer’s sporran. On his legs are diced hose tops worn with khaki spats. Note the sgian-dubh, the small knife, tucked into the top of his hose top on his right leg.
