This section contains eight WW1 era photos showing officers of the 85th Battalion (Nova Scotia Highlanders). It is believed all of the photos came originally from one source and may have belonged to one of the officers. The photos are undated but most appear to be taken towards the end of the war.

Two Officers and a Woman

Circa 1916-1918

The officers are are believed to be from the 85th Battalion (Nova Scotia Highlanders) but are unidentified. Given the style of hat being worn and the untrimmed feather, the photo was probably taken prior to June, 1918. The location is unknown.

The officer on the far right is believed to be Lieut. Douglas Morgan Wiswell from Halifax, NS. The other men are unidentified. The photo is undated and the location is unknown.

Circa 1918-1919

By making comparisons to known named photos of 85th Battalion officers, it is believed that the men in the doorway, left to right, may be:

1.  Capt. Harry Allan Love, Halifax, NS
2.  Capt. Miles Gillespie Brown (Medical Officer), St. Stephen, NB
3.  Lieut. Arthur Wyckoff Rogers, Amherst, NS

The major standing in the centre, below the door, has not been identified.

Th officer seated on the right is Major John MacIntosh Millar of Amherst, NS. The other officers are not positively identified. The photo was probably taken in France or Belgium.

Officers and Women

85th Battalion (Nova Scotia Highlanders)

Circa 1918-1919

Seated on the ground on the far left is Major John MacIntosh Millar of Amhest, NS. Seated on the far right is Lieut. Douglas Morgan Wiswell of Halifax, NS. The other men and women are not identified. Given the lack of leaves on the trees and the heavy coats the women are wearing, the photo was probably taken in late 1918 or early 1919 in France or Belgium. The battalion transferred to England in May 1919 and on to Canada the following month where they were demobilized.
