Two Unidentified Soldiers

185th Battalion (Cape Breton Highlanders)

England

Circa 1917-1918

Studio portrait photo of two unidentified privates from the 185th Battalion in England. Both men wear the early 1913 pattern Canadian seven button service dress jacket and khaki balmorals with full length feathers and unit cap badges. The number "185" is clearly visible on the cap badge of the man on the left and on the collar badges of the man on the right. The man on the left is missing his collar badges.

The man on the left is also pictured in the studio portrait photo below which would have been taken at a later time but probably in the same photo studio.

Unidentified Soldier

185th Battalion (Cape Breton Highlanders)

England

Circa 1917-1918

Studio portrait photo of an unidentified private from the 185th Battalion. He wears a khaki balmoral with cap badge and full length feathers, a highland cut standard British five button pattern jacket, a 1908 pattern web belt and a kilt. On his legs are khaki hose tops worn with puttees. He holds a swagger stick. He is missing his sporran.

This is the same man as in the photo above, but this photo was taken at a later date after the battalion had been issued complete updated highland uniforms. The backdrop is also the same as the photo above, so it was probably taken in the same photo studio.
