This section contains images of a patriotic souvenir postcard pertaining to the 185th Battalion, circa 1917-1918. On the front of the postcard is a piper and a poem.

Circa 1917-1918

The piper on the front of the postcard is believed to be Angus "Big Angus" MacDonald of Colindale, Inverness, Cape Breton.

Reverse of the Above Postcard

The name printed on the reverse of the postcard is 902137 Pte. William Harris Duff. William was born in Shubenacadie, NS, on December 25, 1877. He enlisted in the 193rd Battalion (Nova Scotia Highlanders) in April, 1916, and went overseas with them to England on the S.S. Olympic in the fall of that year. Not long after arriving in England, the 193rd Battalion was disbanded, and William, in December of 1916, was transferred to the 185th Battalion (Cape Breton Highlanders). In February, 1918, after the 185th Battalion was disbanded as well, William was transferred to the 25th Battalion (Nova Scotia Rifles) who were currently at the front. William was killed in action in France with the 25th Battalion on June 22, 1918.
