The names of the soldiers in the photo above are listed on the back of the original photo. Unfortunately only two men have been positively identified:
Seated in the middle row, third from the left is George Saunders. His rank is company sergeant major.
In the back row, on the far left, is 901446 Lance Corporal Sidney Hale. He was born and raised in Westville, NS. He later served in the 185th Battalion (Cape Breton Highlanders) in England and saw action with the 85th Battalion (Nova Scotia Highlanders). He was awarded a Military Medal for his actions while serving with the 85th Battalion and was killed in action on September 2, 1918.
For the other men in the photo it is not clear what names are associated with what faces. The names are as follows:
901666 Sgt. Bert McLeod. Born in Lansdowne, Pictou County, NS. Lived in Westville, NS when he enlisted. Later served in the 185th Battalion (Cape Breton Highlanders) in England and saw action with the 85th Battalion (Nova Scotia Highlanders). He was wounded in action while with the 85th Battalion.
902423 Sgt. Malcolm McMillan. Born in Willowdale, Pictou County, NS. Lived in New Glasgow when he enlisted. Later served in the 185th Battalion (Cape Breton Highlanders) in England and saw action with the 85th Battalion (Nova Scotia Highlanders). He was wounded in action while with the 85th Battalion.
901401 Sgt. William G. Brennan. Born and raised in Pictou, NS. Later served in the 185th Battalion (Cape Breton Highlanders) in England.
901652 Sgt. Matthew Blair Murray. Born in Lanarkshire, Scotland. Lived in Stellarton when he enlisted. Later served in the 185th Battalion (Cape Breton Highlanders) in England and saw action with the 85th Battalion (Nova Scotia Highlanders). He was killed in action on March 30, 1918 while with the 85th Battalion.
901665 Cpl. William Bernard McIsaac. Born and raised in Westville, NS. Later served in the 185th Battalion (Cape Breton Highlanders) in England and saw action with the 25th Battalion (Nova Scotia Rifles). He was wounded in action while with the 25th Battalion.
901908 Cpl. Daniel Francis Hanrahan. Born and raised in Antigonish, NS. Later served in the 185th Battalion (Cape Breton Highlanders) in England and saw action with the 25th Battalion (Nova Scotia Rifles). He was wounded in action while with the 25th Battalion.
902010 Cpl. Alexander McIsaac. Born in Grant's Lake, Guysborough County, NS. Lived in Antigonish, NS when he enlisted. Later served in the 185th Battalion (Cape Breton Highlanders) in England and saw action with the 25th Battalion (Nova Scotia Rifles). He was awaded a Distinguished Conduct Medal wihile serving with the 25th Battalion. He was in England with the goal to receiving a commission when the war ended.
901234 Cpl. James Goldsworth Watters. Born and raised in Westville, NS. Later served in the 185th Battalion (Cape Breton Highlanders) in England. Served with the Canadian Railway Troops in France and Belgium.
