In this studio portrait photo, George Saunders wears the full highland uniform for the 185th Battalion (Cape Breton Highlanders). On his head is a balmoral with full length feathers and cap badge. His tunic appears to be a standard Canadian seven button tunic that has been tailor cut in the highland fashion in order to reveal a sporran. He wears a 1908 pattern web belt and "other ranks" sporran. The numbers "185" are clearly visible on the sporran badge. Note the kilt pin in the shape of his collar badge. On his legs are diced red and white hose tops with khaki spats over his boots. He appears to be holding a swagger stick or cane.
