Note the name printed in pencil at the top of the cover. Helen Spindler was a friend of Titus Mossman when he was overseas. She was from Rose Bay, Lunenburg County, NS, a short distance from where Titus grew up. Titus and Helen later married after the war. Perhaps Helen was in possession of this book while Titus was overseas.

The feather in the song above refers to the cluster of feathers worn behind the cap badge on each balmoral of the soldiers of the 85th Battalion. The center feather in the cluster was dyed bright red which was indicative of the 85th Battalion.
