Standing in the back are the Metcalfe brothers. Bill, who was in the Cape Breton Highlanders, is on the left, and Jack, who was in the North Nova Scotia Highlanders, is on the right. On the left in the front, is their mother, Violet Metcalfe. The woman on the right is Beatrice MacAulay. The photo was taken in Cape Breton in 1940. Note the distinctive unit cap badges being worn by the brothers on the fronts of their “Yukon” style Canadian army winter hats.

Left to right are Jack Metcalfe, Fred Clark, Bill Metcalfe and John Murrant. The photo was taken in Cape Breton in 1940 and was probably taken at the same time as the previous photo. The army units that Fred Clark and John Murrant belonged to are not identified.
