This image is a digital scan of an original 16" wide x 20" high charcoal portrait drawing of John McLean. It appears to depict him in an early pre First World War militia uniform so it was probably done while he served in the 94th Victoria Regiment "Argyll Highlanders, a local Cape Breton militia unit.
