The Cape Breton Highlanders were billetted in Bolsward from July to November, 1945. The war was over. Rod MacCuspey's writing on the reverse of the original photo identifies the jeep as the eighth and last one he drove during the war. The number 62 on the jeep was the unit number for the Cape Breton Highlanders.

The caption on the reverse of the original photo reads "Cooking our dinner outside Berlin, Germany, 1945." Although the Cape Breton Highlanders as a unit were not near Berlin, some men from the unit were allowed to travel through parts of Germany.
