Victory Medal and Issue Box

In the above photo is the Victory Medal and ribbon with its original two piece cardboard box of issue as awarded to Sgt. Roland Murdock Irving. Also included is the ribbon for the British War Medal. The box would have contained both medals and ribbons. Unfortunately Roland's silver British War Medal is missing from the set. Roland's service number, rank and name are printed on the box cover. On the rim of the Victory Medal is indented "1048586 SJT. R.M. Irving. C.F.C." The medal doesn't appear to have ever been worn.

The Victory Medal was awarded to all ranks of the fighting forces, civilians under contract, and others employed with military hospitals, who served in a theatre of war between August 5, 1914 and midnight of November 11/12, 1918.

The British War Medal was awarded to all ranks of the Overseas Military Forces of Canada who went overseas from Canada between August 5, 1914 and November 11, 1918 or who served in a theatre of war.
