In the photo, Harvey holds the rank of captain and has a vertical wound stripe on his left lower sleeve which would indicate the photo was taken after April 1917 when he was wounded at Vimy Ridge. It is believed the photo was taken in England while Harvey was the adjutant to the 17th Reserve Battalion. He still wears his 85th Battalion cap badge.

Harvey Crowell is in the centre front row wearing a glengarry and riding boots. This photo appears to have been taken around the same time as the previous photo. In the photo, Harvey holds the rank of captain. There appear to be a variety of uniforms and insignia being worn by the men in the photo. Often soldiers transferred to the 17th Reserve Battalion retained their distinctive uniforms and badges from their previous units.
