On his enlisted man’s visor cap is a cap badge for the Canadian Ordinance Corps. His collar badges are unidentified. They appear to be a maple leaf design and are not Canadian Ordinance Corps. Reverse of the Above Postcard

The handwritten note on the back of the postcard above is transcribed as follows:

No. 471000 A/Cpl. Alex Dougald Collins

Reported missing from C Company 25th Battalion in France in Sept. 1918. Believed dead. Years later reported as having died of wounds.

Reported from companion (unofficially) to brother HA in Kimmel Park that he went out in charge of party to take machine gun post but never returned. Next night another party went out and found dead of former party but Collins nor equipment was not found. Believed prisoner.

The brother mentioned above was Hugh Allen Collins who was a couple of years younger than Alexander. Hugh was living in Saskatchewan when he was drafted in the summer of 1918. He was in Kimmel Park Military Hospital, England, in November, 1918, suffering from influenza, probably the Spanish Flu. It was there that he most likely heard from the companion mentioned above, regarding his brother.
