Studio portrait photo of an unidentified soldier of the 17th Canadian Reserve Battalion. His 17th Battalion cap badge is clearly visible but his tam o'shanter and kilt appear to be from either the 85th Battalion (Nova Scotia Highlanders) or the 185th Battalion (Cape Breton Highlanders). He was probably transferred to the 17th Battalion from one of the latter battalions, more likely the 185th Battalion.
Note the table which is identical in the following postcard and identifies the photos as being taken in the same photographic studio.

This soldier wears a standard 1903 Canadian seven buttun tunic that has be altered at the front to accommodate a sporran. His kilt appears to be the 17th Battalion's MacKenzie tartan. His 17th Battalion cap badge is visible on his glengarry, as are his 17th Battalion collar badges. Over his kilt is a kilt "apron" which was worn to protect the kilt.
Note the high legged table which is identical in the previous postcard and identifies the photos as being taken in the same photographic studio.
