Roderick Colin Jackson - Section 5

This section contains eight photo postcards showing scenes of the Nova Scotia Highland Brigade at Camp Aldershot, Aldersot, NS, in 1916.

In May of 1916 the original four battalions of the Nova Scotia Highland Brigade came together for the first time in Camp Aldershot. The brigade was composed of the 85th Battalion (Nova Scota Highlanders), raised from throughout Nova Scotia; the 185th Battalion (Cape Breton Highlanders), raised in Cape Breton; the 193rd Battalion (Nova Scotia Highlanders), raised from northern Nova Scotia; and the 219th Battalion (Overseas Highland Battalion), raised from southern Nova Scotia. The Brigade trained at Camp Aldershot until October, 1916, at which time they departed Halifax for England, on the troopship SS Olympic.
