Pipe Band on Parade

Halifax, NS

Circa Late 1940's or Early 1950's

This is a photo of a combined pipe band on parade in Halifax, NS, in the late 1940’s or early 1950’s. Half the men in the photo are from the Cape Breton Highlanders as identified by their cap badges and kilts (dark coloured), while the others appear to be from the Pictou Highlanders (Motor) Battalion (kilts with lighter horizontal stripes). Leading the procession is the drum major from the Cape Breton Highlanders, Charles (Charlie) MacLean from Sydney Mines, NS. The band is making a right turn from Spring Garden Road on to South Park Street. The building in the background is the Lord Nelson Hotel. The event could have been the Natal Day Parade.
